School holidays in Tallinn:
dates and what to do.

When do the autumn and Christmas breaks start, and what can you do with the children during a free week? We have gathered all the 2026/2027 Estonian school-holiday dates on one page, along with practical ideas, whatever the weather.

Dates

School holidays 2026/2027: all the dates

The Ministry of Education and Research has set the 2026/2027 school holidays as follows. The dates apply to general-education schools across Estonia.

sügisvaheaeg· 7 daysNext break

Autumn break

26 Oct 2026 - 1 Nov 2026

The first longer break of the school year. Late October in Tallinn is often wet and dark, so the safest plan is an indoor activity.

jõuluvaheaeg· 14 days

Christmas break

21 Dec 2026 - 3 Jan 2027

The longest winter break, two full weeks over the holidays and New Year. A good time to meet friends and celebrate birthdays. On the holidays themselves the opening hours differ, see the FAQ.

talvevaheaeg· 7 days

Winter break

22 Feb 2027 - 28 Feb 2027

A week at the end of February. The weather swings between snow and slush, so an indoor option really helps.

kevadvaheaeg· 7 days

Spring break

12 Apr 2027 - 18 Apr 2027

The April break (except grade 12). Spring is still changeable, so a backup plan indoors is worth having.

suvevaheaeg· all summer

Summer break

9 Jun 2027 - 31 Aug 2027

The long summer holiday (except final-year classes). On rainy summer days Lohesaba is always a fallback.

Why a play centre

Why a play centre suits the school holidays?

A free week needs an activity that lasts a whole day and does not depend on the weather. Four reasons many families choose a play centre for the break:

1

A whole day on one ticket

School holidays are long and children have energy to burn. The €10 day ticket lasts the whole day: no clock-watching, and you can pop out for lunch and come back.

2

The weather does not spoil plans

Rain, slush or wind cancel nothing. All the adventure is under one roof, so you can plan the break ahead even when the forecast looks bad.

3

Something for every age

The play area suits children from 1 to 14, with a separate soft-play zone for the youngest. In a single visit a toddler and a school-age child both find plenty to do.

4

Easy to invite friends

Free play needs no booking, just turn up. School classes and bigger groups fit in with ease: there is 1500 m² of room to play.

A holiday plan that works

School holidays at Lohesaba.

Lohesaba is an indoor adventure park in the Kristiine district where free play needs no advance booking. One ticket lasts the whole day and an accompanying adult comes in free, so the break can be spent without a fuss.

Up to 4 hours with a parking clock, right by the building.

Other things to do over the holidays in Tallinn

One day at a play centre, another at a museum: a break is best when the days are varied. A few honest options to add:

Science and discovery centres

The Energia Discovery Centre and PROTO Discovery Factory keep curious school-age children busy for a couple of hours. A good way to fill one day of the break.

Museums for children

The Seaplane Harbour (Lennusadam) with its huge indoor hall, and the Miiamilla children's museum for the youngest. A calmer but educational option in bad weather.

Water centre and pool

Kalev Spa and other water centres offer slides and pools. Tickets are usually time-based, so a longer day works out more expensive.

Cinema and a quiet evening

Once the active part of the day is over, a film rounds it off nicely. It will not burn off energy, but it is good for winding down.

For a rainy day, see our indoor playground guide.

Questions and answers

School holidays in Tallinn: FAQ

  • When is the autumn break in 2026?
The 2026/2027 autumn break runs from 26 October to 1 November 2026, seven days in total. The dates are set by regulation (Riigi Teataja) and apply to general-education schools across Estonia.
  • When is the Christmas break 2026/2027?
The Christmas break starts on 21 December 2026 and runs until 3 January 2027, fourteen days in total. It is the longest winter break of the school year.
  • When are the other school holidays 2026/2027?
The winter break is 22 to 28 February 2027, the spring break is 12 to 18 April 2027 (except grade 12), and the summer break is 9 June to 31 August 2027 (except final-year classes). Individual schools may adjust the dates slightly, so it is worth checking your own school calendar.
  • What can you do with kids during the school holidays in Tallinn?
Play centres, science centres, museums, a water centre and the cinema all work for a break. The activity that lasts longest is a large play centre: at Lohesaba a €10 ticket is valid all day, and the 1500 m² of play keeps both toddlers and school-age children busy.
  • Is Lohesaba open during the school holidays?
On ordinary holiday days Lohesaba is open every day from 10:00 to 21:00, and free play needs no booking, just come in. On public holidays (for example 25 and 26 December and 1 January) we are usually closed and open those days only if there is an advance booking. If you would like to visit on a public holiday, please contact us beforehand. The exception is 31 December: with a booking we are open until 18:00.
  • How much does a visit during the holidays cost?
A child's day ticket is €10 and lasts the whole day. Children under 1 and one accompanying adult per family enter free. Grip socks are required and available on site for €3.50.
  • Is Lohesaba busy during the holidays?
Weekdays during the holidays are busier than ordinary school days. The quietest time is right at opening at 10:00 or later in the evening. The building is large, so there is room even on a busy day.
  • Can you hold a birthday party during the break?
Yes. There are five spaces to choose from: four party rooms priced €145 to €245 and a cosy nook in the café for €35. Holiday weeks fill up quickly, so we recommend booking a room a couple of weeks ahead.
